Job Description:

Vehicle Trimmers make, install, repair, replace or modify the seats, upholstery, linings, interior trim, roof and door linings and floor coverings of a vehicle. Vehicles may include cars, trucks, vintage vehicles, buses, caravans, trains, aircraft and boats. Specifically, the duties will involve removing old coverings or fittings from vehicles, re-measuring, selecting pieces of fabric, vinyl or leather, cutting to size and sewing. There will also be fitting of trim, seat cover manufacture and repair, refitting, aligning and checking window winding mechanisms and door locks, fitting of weather strips and draught sealers.

Requirements:

To be awarded the qualification, the New Apprentice must attain a successful assessment of all 4 compulsory core competency standards, all of the listed stream competency standards, plus 3 elective standards from the automotive 'bank' or any endorsed Industry Training Package at the same AQF Level.

Duration:

This competency based program is likely to extend over a period of up to 4 years, depending on the achievement of the required competencies (this period may vary between States/Territories).
