Job Description:

Vehicle body builders repair vehicle bodies, manufacture and modify purpose-built bodies to fit other manufacturer's chassis. Vehicles may include buses, caravans, armoured vans, tray and van bodies, semi-trailers, refrigerated vans, horse floats, fire and police vehicles. Specifically, it will involve constructing framework sections made of various materials by working from engineering drawings, shaping, welding and cutting. It will also be necessary to fit axles, suspensions and brakes, install and repair wiring and lighting systems on trailers/caravans, installing hydraulic and pneumatic systems and vehicle component seals.

Requirements:

To be awarded the qualification, the New Apprentice must attain a successful assessment of all 4 compulsory core competency standards, all of the listed stream competency standards, plus 3 elective standards from the automotive 'bank' or any endorsed Industry Training Package at the same AQF Level.

Duration:

This competency based program is likely to extend over a period of up to 4 years, depending on the achievement of the required competencies (this period may vary between States/Territories).
