Job Description:

Natural Gas fuel is used on cars, trucks and buses and has good potential growth as an alternative and environmentally friendly fuel source for vehicles. This job involves the carrying out of diagnostic procedures, overhaul, repair and servicing of engines and associated components, the repair, servicing and installing of natural gas fuel systems and the repair and servicing of petrol fuel and emission control systems. In addition, repair of electrical, ignition and electronic engine management systems is completed. Within these activities, fabrication of components and welding, soldering and thermal cutting and heating procedures are carried out.

Requirements:

To be awarded the qualification, the New Apprentice must attain a successful assessment of all 4 compulsory core competency standards, all of the listed stream competency standards, plus 6 elective standards from the automotive 'bank' or any endorsed Industry Training Package at the same AQF Level.

Duration:

This competency based program is likely to extend over a period of up to 4 years, depending on the achievement of the required competencies (this period may vary between States/Territories).
