Job Description:

This job involves the setting up and operation of machinery to restore and recondition the machined surfaces of vehicle components. Specifically it involves pre-repair operations such as diagnosis, dismantling engines and evaluating components, conducting testing procedures, overhauling engines, rebuilding and reclaiming engine components, reboring and honing of cylinder heads, servicing and repair of cooling systems, grinding/facing and machining components to specifications using lathe, drilling and cutting machines. These activities are completed using measuring equipment to fine tolerances.

Requirements:

To be awarded the qualification, the New Apprentice must attain a successful assessment of all 4 compulsory core competency standards, all of the listed stream competency standards, plus 3 elective standards from the automotive 'bank' or any endorsed Industry Training Package at the same AQF Level.

Duration:

This competency based program is likely to extend over a period of up to 4 years, depending on the achievement of the required competencies (this period may vary between States/Territories).
