Job Description:

A Diesel Fitter will carry out diagnostic procedures, service, repair and overhaul engines and associated components, repair and service cooling systems, diesel fuel systems, emission control systems and air compressors/components. They will also repair and service manual and automatic transmissions and repair, service and install hydraulic systems and repair electronic engine management systems. In carrying out routine servicing they will ensure correct lubricants/fluids are used, do a safety inspection, read and interpret engineering drawings and complete minor repairs to electrical circuits/systems.

Requirements:

To be awarded the qualification, the New Apprentice must attain a successful assessment of all 4 compulsory core competency standards, all of the listed stream competency standards, plus 6 elective standards from the automotive 'bank' or any endorsed Industry Training Package at the same AQF Level.

Duration:

This competency based program is likely to extend over a period of up to 4 years, depending on the achievement of the required competencies (this period may vary between States/Territories).
