The Bus, Truck & Trailer manufacturing and assembly sector is identified by the following three sub-sectors:

An Operator undertakes a variety of tasks appropriate to the particular workplace in the manufacture and assembly of buses and/or trucks and/or trailers. The range of duties include reading and interpreting working drawings, basic welding, cutting, fabricating, finishing and painting of surfaces, assembling and fitting out components and minor modifications and repairs.

A Supervisor or Team Leader undertakes additional duties that include installing, commissioning and replacing air conditioning and refrigeration systems and assembling/installing hydraulic, pneumatic and braking systems.

Many Supervisors or Operators in this sector have previous related qualifications including welders, spray painters, auto electricians, fitters, trimmers, glaziers, boilermakers and body builders.

Truck Body Building operations are classified under four areas, i.e:

Bus/Coach Manufacturing and Assembly is classified within 3 areas, i.e. school bus, transit/suburban bus and coach.
