Job Description:

The job may involve supervisory or team leader responsibilities and will undertake a variety of tasks appropriate to the particular workplace, in the manufacture and assembly of buses and/or trucks and/or trailers. The range of duties will include reading and interpreting engineering drawings and job specifications, welding, cutting, fabricating, painting, assembling and fitting out components and some mechanical servicing and repairs. Other duties may include installing, commissioning and replacing air conditioning and refrigeration systems and assembling/installing hydraulic, pneumatic and braking systems.

Requirements:

Pathway 1:

To be awarded this qualification, the New Apprentice must attain a successful assessment in a minimum of 23 competencies from the Certificate III menu comprising 7 compulsory core standards, plus 9 from the Certificate III common menu, plus any other 7 from the total Certificate III menu

OR

Pathway 2:

Having completed Certificate II in Automotive Manufacturing (Bus/Truck/Trailer), the New Apprentice must achieve a minimum of 9 additional competencies from the Certificate III menu that includes:

•  Core unit AUM8044A Read and interpret engineering drawings and job specifications; plus

•  a minimum of 4 competencies from the Certificate III common menu that are additional to any that were achieved at Certificate II; plus

•  the balance of the 9 competencies to be selected from the total Certificate III menu that are additional to any that were achieved at Certificate II.

Duration:

This competency based program is likely to extend over a period of up to 4 years, depending on the achievement of the required competencies (this period may vary between States/Territories).
